What it does
When you schedule a reel or photo post for Instagram or Facebook, you can have the same photo or video go out as a story too. You write and schedule the post once; the story follows it automatically.
How to turn it on
- Write your post and pick your Instagram or Facebook account as normal.
- In the Instagram (or Facebook) options, leave the type on Post or Reel and switch on Also post to Story.
- Choose when the story goes out: at the same time, or 5 minutes, 15 minutes or an hour after the post.
On the calendar the post shows a + Story label. It turns green once the story is up, and red if the story did not post.
Things to know
- The story cannot link to the post. Instagram and Facebook do not let any scheduling app add the "view reel" card, link stickers, music, polls or other stickers to a story. If you want the tappable reel card, share the reel to your story from the Instagram app once it is live.
- Stories have no caption. Your caption, collaborators and audio stay on the post only.
- Several photos or videos? Each one becomes its own story, a minute apart, in the same order.
- Videos over 60 seconds cannot be stories, so they are left out.
- Trial reels cannot use this. A trial reel is shown to people who do not follow you, and a story goes to the people who do.
- Fit: stories fill a tall 9:16 screen. If your file is a different shape, a note under the option shows how it will sit — see stories that don't fill the screen.
If the story fails
The post itself is not affected — the story is posted separately, so a problem with one never stops or repeats the other. A failed story appears under Posts → Failed with the reason, where you can try it again.
Changing or deleting
Edit the post and the story updates with it: new time, new media, or switching the option off. Deleting the post deletes a story that has not gone out yet. A story that is already up stays up.
